Two ways to compress
This compressor works in one of two modes, depending on whether you type a target size.
- Target size (KB). Enter the limit you were given, for example 200, and the tool searches for the highest quality that fits under it. If quality alone is not enough, it reduces the pixel dimensions a little at a time instead of making the picture blocky.
- Manual quality. Leave the target empty and use the quality slider. This is useful when you care about how the image looks more than about an exact number.
Choosing the output format

How to read the result message
- Target reached – the file is at or below your limit; the final size, pixel dimensions and quality are shown.
- Very close to the target – within about 10% of the limit at the smallest sensible size; try a slightly larger target or JPG/WEBP.
- Could not be reached – getting lower would make the image unusably small, so you get the smallest usable version instead of a ruined one.
- Already below the target – the image was kept exactly as it was.
The tool never shrinks the shorter side of an image below 160 pixels and keeps JPG/WEBP quality at 60% or higher before it starts reducing dimensions. Those limits are what keep compressed photos readable.

Questions about compressing images
Does compression remove photo metadata?
Re-encoded images do not retain the original EXIF details, such as GPS location. If the image is already below the target and its format is unchanged, the original file is returned with its metadata intact.
Are my photos uploaded?
