When converting PNG to JPG makes sense
PNG stores every pixel exactly, which is perfect for logos and screenshots but wasteful for photographs. A phone photo or a scanned picture saved as PNG is often several times larger than the same image as a JPG, and that is what gets it rejected by email attachment limits, upload forms and chat apps. Converting it to JPG keeps the picture looking the same to the eye while making the file far easier to send.
What happens to your image
- Same pixel size. A 3000×2000 PNG becomes a 3000×2000 JPG. Nothing is cropped or resized.
- Transparency becomes white. JPG has no transparent pixels, so any see-through areas are filled with a white background. A logo on a transparent background will therefore sit on a white square.
- High quality setting. Images are saved at 92% JPG quality, which keeps photos clean while removing most of the PNG overhead.
- Hidden data is dropped. Text chunks and other metadata stored inside the PNG are not copied into the JPG.
- Several files at once. Add as many PNG files as you like; each one gets its own download link.
| Your image | Better format | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Photo, scan, screenshot of a photo | JPG | Much smaller file, no visible difference |
| Logo or icon with a transparent background | Keep PNG | JPG would add a white background |
| Screenshot with small text or sharp lines | Usually PNG | JPG can blur fine edges slightly |
Tips for the best result
If you only need a smaller file for a form with a strict size limit, convert first and then use Compress Image to 100KB to hit the exact number. If the image is also larger than it needs to be in pixels, the Image Resizer will shrink the file even further.
Questions about PNG to JPG
Can I keep the transparent background?
No. JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas turn white. If you need transparency, keep the PNG or use WEBP.
Will the JPG always be smaller?
For photos, almost always. For flat graphics with only a few colours, the saving is smaller and PNG can occasionally win.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion is done by your browser on your own device, so the files never reach a server.
